First- Safety:  If you are involved in a minor accident and there are no serious injuries, carefully move your vehicle off to the side of the road.  Make sure it is out of the way of traffic and gives you room to move around the vehicle.  Once in a safe place, stop and identify yourself to the other driver(s) involved in the collision.  (Some state or local statutes may require the vehicle be left as is.) If your vehicle cannot be moved, turn on the hazard lights. Seek medical help if either party requires it, and notify the police.

Second- Swap Information:  Write down the name, address, phone number, insurance company, policy number, driver’s license number, and license plate number for the driver and the owner of each vehicle. Also, list any passengers and witnesses. Most importantly, be polite, and don’t tell the other drivers or the police that the accident was your fault, avoid any extensive discussions at the scene about who is responsible for damage.

Third- Photograph and Document The Scene:  It’s always a good idea to jot down notes that describe the accident, including weather conditions, which vehicles were in which lanes, direction of travel and estimated speeds. If you have a camera, take photographs. Importan:  You want your photos to show the overall context of the accident so that you can make your case to a claims adjuster.

Fourth- Call A Qualified Repair Facility Like Coastland:  Have the vehicle towed or driven to a collision repair facility of your choice.

Fifth-  File An Accident Report:  Drivers should file a vehicle accident report with the local police. A police report often helps insurance companies speed up the claims process.

Sixth- File An Insurance Claim:  Call your insurance company as soon as possible.
